Saul Mineroff Electronics Works With FBI
to Uncover New Uses for Sennheiser Infrared Systems
Since 1970, Saul Mineroff, president of
Saul Mineroff Electronics (SME), Elmont, NY, has been known throughout the
intelligence and law enforcement community as the ultimate "expert" in audio
recording. His company provides sales, service, custom design and engineering
of audio surveillance equipment to both federal and state law enforcement
agencies.
An area that Mineroff has nurtured since
the early days in information gathering is the FBI's use of Sennheiser infrared
technology to meet their audio requirements for high profile court room
proceedings, monitoring applications at command posts, and joint task force
training of top surveillance techniques to foreign law enforcement
agencies.
According to Mineroff, "When Sennheiser
introduced its infrared technology in 1976, it presented a unique opportunity
for me to approach the FBI. Prior to infrared, the FBI used hardwired systems
where headphones were plugged into various junction boxes, trailing amps
and tape recorders. These systems often took FBI officials several hours
to wire, and restricted the movement of equipment users. With infrared
technology, the FBI was able to do away with cables, making set-up more
easier."
Since infrared signals are contained in
a room and eliminate the potential for interference between rooms, the FBI
enjoys a level of security they did not have with the older systems. "For
command posts these results are very important because they prevent external
sources from monitoring the intelligence picked up by agents," adds
Mineroff.
For most FBI applications, Mineroff specifies
Sennheiser's SI1029 multichannel infrared system. At least 12 infrared channels
are used at one time. "In task force training this system is especially useful
because it breaks the language barriers of the participants," notes
Mineroff.
For high profile courtroom cases, Sennheiser
infrared systems optimize the intelligibility of evidence tape recording
playbacks and language translation. "A Sennheiser system proved extremely
useful in the infamous John Gotti trial," recalls Mineroff. "Infrared technology
allows court participants to concentrate on the proceedings and offers a
level of security unavailable through other technologies including RF wireless.
Self-containment is key.
In the 20 plus years that Saul Mineroff
has used Sennheiser products, he has achieved excellent results. "Sennheiser's
systems are reliable and adaptable. This is extremely important because
government projects vary and oftentimes require modifications for special
applications and installations. And when I need to fill a job order with
the FBI quickly, I can count on Sennheiser to provide timely
service."
